About the Position Animal Wellness has a consistently busy companion animal caseload requiring an experienced full-time Veterinary Nurse.
This role plays a key part in supporting the efficient delivery of veterinary services and continuity of patient care, working closely with and under the supervision of our registered veterinarians. The successful candidate will bring strong clinical experience and a high standard of animal care to a fast-paced, well-established practice. The role offers exposure to a broad and varied clinical caseload, including consultations, surgery, dental, diagnostic and preventative care, within a supportive team environment committed to continuing professional development and outstanding patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Restrain and handle animals to allow safe examination and treatment by veterinarians. Prepare, sterilise and hand instruments and equipment for consultations, surgery and procedures. Monitor and assist with the administration of anaesthetics and oxygen during operations.
Collect pathology and diagnostic samples and assist with laboratory procedures. Assist with radiography and diagnostic imaging. Administer medications and treatments as directed by a veterinarian.
Care for hospitalised and recovering animals, including post-operative monitoring. Maintain accurate clinical and treatment records. Communicate with clients regarding animal care and provide treatment and aftercare instructions as directed by the veterinarian.
Maintain, clean and stock clinical equipment and consumables. Required Skills and Experience Certificate III or IV in Veterinary Nursing, a Degree in Veterinary Science, or a relevant equivalent qualification. Minimum three years of relevant hands-on clinical experience in a veterinary practice or comparable animal healthcare setting.
Previous clinical experience working with small animals and companion animals. Demonstrated experience assisting with companion animal consultations, clinical procedures and surgery. Sound knowledge of anaesthetic monitoring, patient care and veterinary nursing procedures.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a clinical team. High attention to detail and sound animal handling skills. Ability to work effectively in a busy veterinary clinic environment.
Desired Skills and Experience Experience assisting with surgery, diagnostic imaging, pathology sample collection and inpatient nursing. Experience monitoring anaesthesia and supporting post-operative recovery. Experience administering medications and treatments under veterinary direction.
Experience maintaining accurate clinical records and communicating aftercare instructions to clients.
