About the role

Schurmann Brick Laying is seeking experienced Bricklayers/Labourers and passionate Bricklaying Apprentices to join our team in Toowoomba, Queensland. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst contributing to quality bricklaying projects across the region. Whether you are an experienced tradesperson looking for casual work or an ambitious individual keen to begin your apprenticeship in the building trades, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills with a respected company in the construction industry. You will be working on-site at various locations within and around Toowoomba, contributing to residential and commercial building projects.

Key responsibilities

For Bricklayers/Labourers:

• Laying bricks, concrete blocks, and other masonry units according to specifications and building plans

• Preparing mortar and other materials required for bricklaying work

• Ensuring all brickwork meets quality standards, safety regulations, and relevant building codes

• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications

• Working safely on-site and adhering to all health and safety protocols

• Collaborating with other tradespeople and site teams to meet project timelines

• Maintaining tools and equipment in good working condition

For Bricklaying Apprentices:

• Learning bricklaying techniques under the supervision of experienced bricklayers

• Assisting with material preparation and site organisation

• Developing practical skills in mortar mixing, brick laying, and finishing techniques

• Attending formal training and completing required competency assessments

• Contributing to on-site tasks whilst building knowledge of building trade practices

• Developing understanding of health and safety requirements in the construction industry

What we're looking for

For Bricklayers/Labourers:

• Proven experience in bricklaying or related masonry work

• Solid understanding of building standards, safety regulations, and best practices in the construction industry

• Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications

• Physical fitness and capability to perform manual labour on-site

• Reliable and punctual approach to work

• Strong teamwork and communication skills

• Valid driver's licence (desirable)

• Current White Card or willingness to obtain one (required for working on construction sites)

For Bricklaying Apprentices:

• Year 12 completion or equivalent (or willingness to study whilst apprenticing)

• Genuine passion for the building trades and bricklaying

• Physical fitness and capability to perform manual labour

• Strong work ethic and commitment to learning

• Reliability and punctuality

• Good communication and teamwork abilities

• Ability to follow instructions and work safely on construction sites

• Current White Card or willingness to obtain one before commencing work
