Cook / Kitchen Team Member – YAKITORI 38

YAKITORI 38 is a busy Japanese izakaya in Canberra, serving a wide range of Japanese dishes including charcoal-grilled skewers, sashimi, sushi, small plates and other izakaya favourites.

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Cook / Kitchen Team Member to join our growing team.

Our kitchen is fast-paced and team-focused. We are looking for someone who can work efficiently under pressure, maintain consistent food quality, and is willing to help across all areas of the kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Food preparation and service during busy dinner periods
• Cooking and plating dishes according to company standards
• Preparing ingredients for daily service
• Maintaining cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen
• Dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning when required
• Receiving and storing deliveries
• Assisting with stock rotation, storage and food safety procedures
• Supporting other kitchen team members during service
• Performing all reasonable kitchen duties as directed by management

Requirements

• Previous kitchen experience preferred
• Experience in Japanese cuisine is an advantage, but not essential
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team
• Good communication skills
• High standards of cleanliness and personal presentation
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
• Must be comfortable working late shifts
• Must be physically capable of standing for extended periods and performing manual kitchen tasks

This is not a position for someone who only wants to cook on the line. Everyone in our kitchen helps where needed, whether that means preparation, service, cleaning, dishwashing, receiving deliveries or supporting another section during a busy service.
