Child and Family Practitioner - Connecting

Join Meli as a Child and Family Practitioner within our Connecting Families team and play a key role in supporting children, young people, and families across the Barwon Southwest region.

In this early‑intervention focused role, you’ll collaborate closely with universal services and community partners to build parenting capacity, strengthen protective factors, and help families thrive. About the Role

As a Child and Family Practitioner in our Connecting stream you will:

• Provide early intervention support, parenting education, and tailored family-focused interventions through place‑based and outreach models.
• Undertake comprehensive assessments—including risk, needs and service identification—and develop outcomes‑focused child and family action plans.
• Build strong partnerships with schools, community organisations and universal services to improve access, coordination and support for families.
• Facilitate group programs, advocate for families, and contribute to continuous quality improvement across Meli’s Family Support Platform.

Position Details

• Part Time positions, Fixed term until 09 April 2027
• 0.8 FTE working 30.4 hours per week
• This position follows the school terms, and no work is required during school holidays
• $105,834 (pro-rata) p/a + Super + Salary Packaging

What We're Looking For

We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Welfare Studies, Nursing, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Behavioural Sciences or related field
• Demonstrated understanding of managing complex cases with strong case practice including client advocacy, therapeutic interventions and family support in line with evidence informed frameworks.
• Demonstrated understanding of risk and needs assessments
• Demonstrated knowledge of the factors that can impact on a parent’s ability to care for children and knowledge of the service system and resources available that can support parents, children and young people
• Experience in the facilitation and delivery of evidence-based parenting programs.
• Demonstrated experience in parenting coaching to assist parents to build their parenting confidence, skill and capacity in order to assist children to thrive.
