About the Role

Working closely with the Head Chef, the Sous Chef will assist with the day-to-day running of the kitchen and take an active leadership role during event preparation and service. You will be responsible for helping deliver consistent, high-quality food across weddings, private functions, corporate events and other special occasions. The role is hands-on and will suit a chef who can confidently lead a team while remaining actively involved in food preparation and service.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef with the daily operation of the kitchen.
• Lead and supervise the kitchen team during preparation and service.
• Coordinate food preparation for weddings, functions and events.
• Maintain consistently high standards of food quality, taste and presentation.
• Ensure dishes are prepared according to established recipes and specifications.
• Coordinate plated, buffet, cocktail and canapé services.
• Ensure food is delivered from the kitchen on time and to the required standard.
• Review event requirements and function sheets before service.
• Manage multiple food preparation requirements during busy event periods.
• Train, support and mentor junior kitchen staff.
• Assist with ordering, stock control and stock rotation.
• Monitor food wastage and portion control.
• Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards.
• Assist with menu development and seasonal menu changes.
• Work closely with the Events and Front of House teams to ensure smooth event delivery.
• Take responsibility for kitchen operations when the Head Chef is not on site.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about food and enjoys the excitement of weddings and events.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or experienced Chef de Partie.
• Commercial kitchen experience.
• Experience in weddings, functions, catering, hotels or high-volume environments.
• Strong culinary and food preparation skills.
• Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• A calm and professional approach during busy services.
• High attention to detail and presentation.
• A strong understanding of food safety and hygiene.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings and public holidays as required.

A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification is highly regarded.
