About the role
Sutherland Shire | Permanent Full-Time or Part-Time | Casual Opportunities
Complex cases. Exceptional mentors. A team you’ll genuinely enjoy being part of.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Nurse to take their anaesthesia skills to the next level, working directly alongside specialist anaesthetists and surgeons on complex, high-acuity cases.
At Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS), no two days are the same. You may be supporting an advanced orthopaedic procedure, managing anaesthesia for a critical neurosurgical patient or contributing to a complex soft-tissue or minimally invasive procedure.
You’ll be challenged, supported and encouraged to keep growing—but you’ll also work with a friendly, down-to-earth team that enjoys a laugh, celebrates each other’s wins and genuinely looks out for one another.
No mandatory on-call
No weekend shifts
No public holiday shifts
An exciting and varied specialist caseload
Competitive remuneration, commensurate with your skills and experience
Direct mentorship from specialist anaesthetists and surgeons
Structured professional development and genuine career pathways
Support for nurses interested in pursuing a Veterinary Technician Specialist qualification in anaesthesia
An in-house Clinical Educator dedicated to supporting your growth
Access to advanced facilities and equipment, including MRI, CT, fluoroscopy and sophisticated anaesthetic monitoring
Exposure to complex surgery, orthopaedics, neurology and neurosurgery
Staff discounts on veterinary services
A convenient Sutherland Shire location close to public transport
Just as importantly, you’ll be joining a team that works hard without taking itself too seriously. We value clinical excellence, but we also value kindness, collaboration, good communication and making work an enjoyable place to be.
Expect supportive colleagues, shared lunches, plenty of laughs, team celebrations and people who will step in to help when a day becomes particularly busy.
In this role, you will:
Complete pre-anaesthetic assessments and prepare patients for surgery
Assist with the administration and monitoring of anaesthesia across a wide range of complex procedures
Closely monitor vital parameters and respond to changes throughout each procedure
Support analgesia and pain-management planning across all stages of patient care
Deliver exceptional perioperative nursing care across pre-operative, intra-operative and recovery periods
Work collaboratively with our anaesthesia, surgery, ECC and inpatient nursing teams
Maintain accurate clinical and anaesthetic records
Follow strict patient-safety, infection-control and clinical protocols
Contribute to a positive, supportive and collaborative team environment
We’re looking for someone who:
Holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or an equivalent qualification
Has anaesthesia experience in a general practice, hospital, emergency or specialist setting
Is comfortable using anaesthetic monitoring equipment
Remains calm under pressure and has excellent attention to detail
Takes pride in delivering a high standard of patient care
Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Is eager to learn, open to feedback and willing to try new things
Brings a positive attitude and contributes to a healthy team culture
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. If you have strong foundational skills, a genuine interest in anaesthesia and the motivation to develop, our team will support you to grow.
It would be an advantage if you have:
Experience in a busy GP, referral, specialist or emergency hospital
Previous exposure to complex anaesthesia or advanced surgical procedures
An interest in pursuing a VTS qualification in anaesthesia

We have the equipment, expertise and caseload you would expect from a leading specialist hospital—but our culture is what makes people want to stay. We are building a workplace where talented people feel supported, respected and excited to come to work.
If you’re passionate about anaesthesia, committed to exceptional patient care and looking for a role where you can continue learning while enjoying the people you work with, we would love to hear from you.
Please submit your CV together with a brief introduction outlining your anaesthesia experience and what draws you to specialist practice.
