Are you an experienced Product Delivery Leader ready for your next challenge?

At Best Practice Software, our roadmap tells us what to build next, and this role is about making sure it gets built: safely, reliably, and on time. As our Product Leader, you’ll own end-to-end delivery of an already-shaped roadmap, leading the team of developers and delivery-focused Product Owners who turn it into shipped software, and taking full accountability for how well and how safely that software runs once it’s out.

This isn’t a role that decides what goes into the roadmap. It’s a role that ensures what’s already been prioritised gets delivered: managed through the full software development life cycle, built to a high standard, and kept stable, secure, and genuinely usable long after release.

We’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience. As a Product Delivery Leader, you’ll be responsible for:

Own end-to-end delivery of the roadmap

• Take the roadmap as it’s handed to you and own its delivery from planning through to release, sequencing work, managing dependencies, and driving the team to deliver on time;
• Manage the end-to-end software development life cycle (SDLC), from planning and build through testing, release and post-release support;
• Lead, coach and grow the team of developers and delivery-focused Product Owners responsible for getting the roadmap built;
• Be the go-to person when delivery needs unblocking, hands-on when it matters, stepping back when it doesn’t.

Keep stakeholders informed, every step of the way

• Provide regular, clear updates to stakeholders across the business on build progress, issues and risks, before they ask;
• Translate technical detail into plain language for commercial, clinical and leadership audiences;
• Build genuine working relationships across Product, QA, Customer and Leadership teams so delivery never happens in a silo;
• Escalate risks and roadblocks early, with options and not just problems. 

Set the standard for how we build

• Define and own development standards, coding practices, review processes and quality gates across the team;
• Keep development practices, tooling and delivery frameworks (Agile, Shape Up, continuous delivery or hybrid) current and fit for purpose;
• Own the CI/CD pipeline strategy, ensuring build, test and release processes are fast, reliable and auditable.

Manage technical debt and future-proof the product

• Actively identify, prioritise and pay down technical debt before it becomes a delivery risk, working with the Product Design team to ensure it is prioritised appropriately and balanced with a customer lens;
• Make deliberate, forward-looking calls on architecture, tooling and technical trade-offs that keep the product adaptable as it grows;
• Own delivery metrics, cycle time, deployment frequency, defect rates and team velocity, and use them to drive real improvement, not just reporting. 

Own product stability, quality and safety

• Take full accountability for the stability, quality and usability of the product once it’s live, your responsibility doesn’t stop at release;
• Embed, security, patient safety and clinical quality into every stage of the SDLC, and ensure delivery meets Australian healthcare regulatory and compliance standards;
• Ensure what we ship is safe, reliable and genuinely usable for the healthcare professionals who depend on it every day.

We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:

• A background as a Development Manager or Product Manager, with a strong track record of delivering software end-to-end, not just describing delivery, but having run it;
• Deep, hands-on experience leading software delivery teams, you’ve been close to the code and know what good looks like;
• Strong technical credibility with developers, and the judgment to make sound architecture and tooling calls;
• Proven experience managing technical debt and making a product more resilient and maintainable over time;
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and comfortable being the person who keeps the whole business informed on progress, issues and risk, not just your immediate team;
• Clear, confident communication, able to translate technical complexity for commercial and clinical audiences alike;
• Experience with modern delivery frameworks at scale, and the judgement to know when and how to adapt them;
• Comfort operating at both the strategic and hands-on levels, without losing sight of either.
