About the role

Durack Civil is a leading civil construction contractor delivering complex infrastructure projects across Queensland. We are committed to protecting our people, supporting our clients, and maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversight of our safety systems, teams and project operations. This is a senior position that will play a critical role in shaping and embedding a proactive safety culture across the organisation.
About the RoleReporting to senior leadership, the Safety Manager will lead the implementation, continuous improvement and compliance of Durack Civil's Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems across multiple projects and regions.
You will work closely with Project Managers, Supervisors and Site Teams to ensure safety remains at the forefront of every activity while supporting operational excellence and project delivery outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the company's Health, Safety and Environmental framework across all projects.
Develop, review and improve HSEQ policies, procedures, management plans and systems.
Coach, mentor and support Safety Advisors and project teams in achieving safety objectives.
Drive a positive safety culture through visible leadership, engagement and accountability.
Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, client requirements and industry best practice.
Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
Analyse safety trends and performance metrics to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
Conduct audits, inspections and management reviews across project sites.
Manage subcontractor compliance and safety performance.
Facilitate executive reporting on safety performance, risks and initiatives.
Support project tenders, prequalifications and client safety requirements.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workforce wellbeing and operational safety outcomes.
You are a proven safety leader who is passionate about creating safe workplaces and influencing positive behavioural change. You possess strong commercial awareness and understand how safety excellence contributes to successful project delivery.
Essential RequirementsDiploma or Degree qualification in Work Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Management or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in a senior HSEQ, Safety Manager or Safety Leadership role within civil construction, infrastructure, mining or related industries.
Strong knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and relevant Australian Standards.
Experience leading incident investigations, auditing programs and risk management processes.
Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
Current Construction White Card.
Current Driver's Licence.
Experience working on TMR, local government or major infrastructure projects.
Return to Work Coordinator qualifications.
Environmental and Quality Management Systems experience.
