SHIPWRIGHT – PERMANENT FULL-TIME
Rosshaven Marine
Townsville, Queensland
Salary: $80,000–$90,000 per annum plus superannuation (negotiable)
Rosshaven Marine is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Shipwright to join our marine operations in Townsville, North Queensland.
This is a permanent, full-time position working an average of 38 ordinary hours per week. Some overtime or weekend work may be required according to operational needs. Applicable overtime, penalty rates and allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant industrial instrument and employment conditions.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Working as part of our marine maintenance and repair team, you will undertake the construction, maintenance, refit and repair of commercial and recreational vessels.
Key responsibilities include:
Inspecting vessels and determining repair requirements and appropriate work procedures.
Reading and interpreting plans, drawings, specifications and technical information.
Constructing, repairing and replacing vessel structures, hull components, decks, bulkheads, cabins and internal fit-outs.
Installing and repairing marine fittings, frames, supports, hatches, windows, doors and deck hardware.
Working with materials including timber, fibreglass, composites, aluminium and other marine construction materials.
Preparing moulds, templates and components for vessel construction and repair.
Undertaking fibreglass laminating, fairing, finishing, sealing and general composite repairs.
Removing and reinstalling vessel components and assisting with vessel refit projects.
Accurately measuring, cutting, shaping, fitting and assembling components.
Identifying defects and completing work to required quality and safety standards.
Maintaining tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
Complying with workplace health and safety, environmental and quality-control requirements.
Working cooperatively with other trades, supervisors, vessel owners and contractors.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
A Certificate III in Marine Craft Construction, or a relevant equivalent trade qualification.
Demonstrated experience as a Shipwright, Boat Builder or in a closely related marine trade.
Practical experience in vessel construction, maintenance, repair or refit work.
Competence working with timber, fibreglass and composite marine materials.
The ability to interpret technical drawings, plans and specifications.
Sound knowledge of marine construction techniques and safe work practices.
The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Experience with commercial vessels, vessel slipping or lifting operations, marine joinery, structural fibreglass repairs or aluminium vessel fit-out will be highly regarded.
REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
Base salary of $80,000–$90,000 per annum, negotiable, depending on qualifications, skills and experience.
Superannuation paid in addition to the base salary.
Overtime, penalties and applicable allowances paid separately in accordance with the relevant industrial instrument and employment conditions.
Permanent, full-time employment.
Varied marine repair, maintenance and refit work.
Supportive team environment in Townsville, North Queensland.
