The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced senior associate or special counsel to join our general insurance team on a full-time basis, uniquely working across both of our Insurance and Government divisions.

This role will provide the opportunity to work across a diverse range of legally challenging matters focussing on a variety of general liability matters, including personal injury, construction, property damage, and the potential for other specialty areas (defamation, coronial inquests etc).

The work is high quality working for one of the leading insurance and government partners in NSW with clients based both domestically (Government and private sector insurers) and internationally.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Oversee and manage a diverse caseload of general liability claims, ensuring exceptional client representation and successful outcomes. There will be a focus on significant matters including large catastrophic losses.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to junior lawyers, assisting in their professional growth and development.
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and court proceedings with expertise and confidence.
• Offer ongoing legal advice and support to clients throughout the entire litigation process.

The successful candidate will be experienced in and enjoy working autonomously on matters while supervising and mentoring junior lawyers. Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent and a current New South Wales practising certificate.
• Minimum 5 years' post admission and experience in liability or professional indemnity, with experience in insurance policy advice and coverage disputes.
• Strong command of Australian tort law, civil procedure, and relevant legislation.
• Proven ability to effectively mentor and supervise junior lawyers, fostering their growth and success.
• Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• A commercial approach and ability to articulate and negotiate effectively.
