The Role

We are looking for lawyer with 3 to 5 years PAE experience in general commercial transactions and ideally with employment law experience to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. This role is suited to a lawyer who enjoys working across a broad range of commercial matters and is able to hit the ground running and take carriage of existing files autonomously, while working closely with the principal lawyer and our tight knit team.

You'll be part of a collaborative environment where learning and development are encouraged, and you'll contribute to high-quality outcomes for clients while supporting the firm’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Take carriage of a range of matters from start to finish autonomously with appropriate support and team collaboration.

• Deal directly with clients and develop strong client relationships.

• Provide practical, sensible and commercially focused advice tailored to the individual client’s needs.

• Working collaboratively with the Principal, lawyers, paralegals and support staff.

• Focusing on marketing, business and learning development.

• Supporting and mentoring more junior team members.

• Prioritise daily tasks effectively and meet internal and external deadlines.

• Using our practice management systems, Actionstep and ensuring efficient and daily time recording system to accurately recording billable hours.

• Regularly updating Outlook calendars and Trello boards to reflect the status of ongoing tasks and keep the team up to date.

• Communicate clearly with the team regarding task progress and capacity.

• Ability to demonstrate strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, a common sense approach and excellent communication skills.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Has 3 – 5 years PAE with a current unrestricted Victoria practicing certificate.

• Has experience as a generalist commercial lawyer, and some experience in employment law is preferred but not essential.

• Is confident, down to earth and prioritises a common sense approach to providing legal advice.

• Is willing to contribute to the growth and development of the firm.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) with a valid practising certificate.

• 3–5 years post-admission experience (more or less will be considered based on capability).

• Strong legal interpersonal skills.

• Professionalism in dealing with clients.

• Experience in commercial law, interest or experience in employment law, property law, regulatory and governance is advantageous.

• Ability to manage time effectively and work independently within a team structure.
