About the role

SGD Civil Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team on a part-time basis. Based in Sydney NSW, this role offers the opportunity to work with a respected civil construction company whilst maintaining flexibility around your schedule. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in our business by preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects, ensuring our bids remain competitive whilst maintaining profitability. This position is integral to our project acquisition strategy and directly impacts the success of our tender submissions.

What you'll be doing

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotations for civil construction projects across various sectors

• Analyse project specifications, drawings and tender documentation to determine material, labour and equipment requirements

• Conduct site inspections and assessments to gather necessary information for accurate estimating

• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services

• Review and validate estimates to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards

• Maintain comprehensive estimating databases and historical project records

• Support the commercial and project teams with cost analysis and value engineering recommendations

• Contribute to the development and refinement of estimating procedures and methodologies

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as an Estimator in the civil construction industry, ideally with 3+ years in a similar role

• Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, materials, labour costs and industry standards

• Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications

• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation

• Strong communication and negotiation skills to engage effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders

• Relevant qualifications such as a diploma or certificate in construction or quantity surveying

• Experience with building information modelling (BIM) or advanced estimating tools would be advantageous

• A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
