Civil Estimator - Earthworks

Starbuck Group is seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to join our team.

This role is suited to someone with approximately two to five years’ experience who has a sound understanding of civil earthworks and can prepare accurate, commercially considered estimates and tender submissions.

You will manage estimating opportunities from the initial enquiry through to submission and follow-up. An important part of the role will be liaising directly with clients to understand their requirements, clarify project scopes and build strong, long-term working relationships.

This is an estimating-focused position.

• Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes of work

• Complete detailed quantity take-offs for civil earthworks projects

• Estimate labour, plant, materials, subcontractor and project delivery costs

• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor pricing

• Identify scope gaps, risks, exclusions, qualifications and opportunities

• Prepare accurate and competitive quotations and tender submissions

• Attend site inspections and pre-tender meetings where required

• Liaise with clients to clarify project requirements and understand their priorities

• Maintain regular and professional communication with clients throughout the estimating process

• Follow up submitted quotations and tenders and respond to client queries

• Develop positive relationships with new and existing clients

• Maintain current estimating rates, records and supporting documentation

• Work closely with management and operational teams to ensure estimates reflect practical delivery requirements

• Prepare clear handover information when work is successfully awarded

• Review tender outcomes and use feedback to strengthen future submissions

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Approximately two to five years’ experience in civil estimating or a similar position

• Demonstrated experience estimating civil earthworks projects

• A practical understanding of earthworks methodologies, plant capabilities, productivity rates, labour and materials

• Experience reading and interpreting civil drawings, specifications and tender documents

• Strong quantity take-off and cost-estimating skills

• Sound commercial judgement and attention to detail

• Confidence communicating directly with clients and building professional relationships

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience using relevant estimating software

• A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of opportunities

• A current Australian driver licence

Relevant qualifications in civil engineering, construction management, quantity surveying or a related discipline will be well regarded; however, demonstrated industry experience and capability are equally important.
