Senior Dental Assistant – Clinical & Administration

We are looking for an experienced Senior Dental Assistant to join our team in a varied role combining clinical dental assisting, dentist administration and Practice Manager support.

This is not a traditional chairside-only role. We are looking for someone who enjoys being organised, taking initiative, following things through and helping the whole practice run smoothly.

Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will provide direct administrative support to the dentist and practical administrative support to the Practice Manager.

This will include things such as:

• Taking and completing clinical notes.

• Assisting with treatment plans and clinical documentation.

• Coordinating and following up dental laboratory cases.

• Ensuring laboratory work is returned within the required timeframe.

• Keeping the dentist organised and informed about outstanding clinical tasks.

• Supporting the Practice Manager with administration, documentation, stock, compliance and other practice tasks.

• Helping identify and resolve issues before they impact the clinical day.

You will also play an important part in helping the clinical day run smoothly.

You will monitor the flow of the day, recognise when a dentist or hygienist is running behind, communicate with the team and jump in where needed to help get the schedule back on track.

When another dental assistant is unexpectedly away, you will be comfortable stepping into the surgery and helping the team wherever you are needed.

• Assist dentists, hygienists and other clinicians across a range of procedures.

• Prepare and maintain treatment rooms.

• Ensure instruments, materials and equipment are ready.

• Complete charting and periodontal charting as required.

• Assist with treatment planning.

• Process PA, bitewing, OPG and CBCT radiographs.

• Manufacture CEREC crowns as required.

• Maintain high standards of infection control and steri.

• Assist with stock management and ordering.

• Provide an exceptional patient experience, including supporting anxious patients.

You will work alongside our other Senior Dental Assistants as part of the clinical team.

You will not be responsible for managing or supervising other dental assistants.

We are looking for someone who is experienced and confident enough to take ownership of their own responsibilities, use initiative, communicate well and help the team when needed.

You don't need to be the person in charge — but you do need to be the person who notices when something needs doing and gets it done.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Senior Dental Assistant.

• Strong clinical dental assisting experience.

• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.

• An interest in dental administration and supporting the dentist outside the surgery.

• Experience with treatment plans, clinical notes and laboratory coordination.

• Strong computer and administrative skills.

• Excellent communication skills.

• The ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.

• A calm, practical and solutions-focused approach.

• The ability to work independently and take initiative.

• A genuine team-focused attitude.

• A strong understanding of infection control and dental compliance requirements.

Most importantly, you are someone who takes ownership and follows things through.

You might be the person who notices that a lab case hasn't arrived, the dentist is running behind, the next surgery isn't ready, the steri needs attention or the Practice Manager has an outstanding task that needs following up — and rather than walking past it, you help make sure it gets sorted.
