Summary:

Responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents in accordance with dietary requirements and food safety standards. This role involves food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and working collaboratively with care staff to ensure a positive dining experience for residents, according to the Catering Manager's directions.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure smooth running of the kitchen by coordinating activities with other staff.
• Ensure that cooking, meal preparation, cooking and presentation (including special dietary requirements) meet house members' needs and are performed in accordance with quality assurance standards.
• Ensure that all processes, and cooking preparation and related areas are cleaned and meet quality assurance standards for accreditation and hygiene and cleanliness.
• Responsible for general maintenance of plant and equipment.
• Assist with review and development of food and nutrition policies and procedures, as well as with the implementation of quality assurance and other programs.
• Assist with minimising stock and equipment wastage and with budget control of stock and equipment.
• Any other duties commensurate with the employee’s skills and experience as directed by the Catering Manager.

Person specifications

• Essential qualifications and experience
• Possession of TAFE or trade based qualifications, or willingness to undertake studies.
• Knowledge of food service principles and standards.

Desirable qualifications and experience

• 4 years of experience in working in a catering services environment and in preparing a variety of foods.
• Familiarity with a variety of cooking techniques and various machines and procedures within a kitchen environment.
• A knowledge of the requirements of the Occupational Health Safety and Welfare Act, food handling and hygiene.

• Ability to lead and motivate staff.
• Able to communicate verbally and in writing and to follow written instructions.
• Able to relate to a variety of other people.
• Able to work under the pressure of production timetables.

Conditions:

• Must provide a NDIS worker screening clearance that is dated not more than five years old to enable the assessment of whether the employee is suitable to provide care under the Aged Care Act. This clearance must remain updated by the employee during the contract period.
• Must comply with Barunga Village's immunisation policies and procedures at all times.
• Must comply with Barunga Village’s Code of Conduct.

Special Conditions:

• Current motor vehicle license is required.
• Comply with food hygiene requirements according to the regulations under the Food Act 2001 and Food Regulations 2017
