Full time Sous Chef

Sawyers Dining is looking for a capable, dedicated and motivated Sous Chefto become a valuable member of our close-knit kitchen team.

Working closely with our Head Chef and management team, the Sous Chef will play an important role in overseeing the day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring consistently high standards across food preparation, lunch and dinner service, functions and events.

Located within West Pennant Hills Sports Club, Sawyers Dining is a busy and growing venue in Sydney’s Hills District, offering an exciting and fast-paced environment for an experienced chef looking to take the next step in their career.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef in overseeing and coordinating daily kitchen operations and service
• Lead and supervise kitchen staff during busy lunch, dinner, functions and event services
• Ensure food is consistently prepared, cooked and presented to a high standard
• Assist with menu preparation, daily specials and food preparation planning
• Assist with ordering, stock control, receiving deliveries and minimising food wastage
• Maintain and enforce high standards of food safety, hygiene and WHS throughout the kitchen
• Ensure the kitchen remains clean, organised and compliant throughout service and close-down
• Provide guidance, training and support to junior chefs and kitchen staff
• Take responsibility for kitchen operations and service in the absence of the Head Chef
• Maintain a positive and professional kitchen culture and lead by example

Key Qualities & Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery
• 3 - 5+ years’ experience in a commercial kitchen, with previous supervisory or Sous Chef experience
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to confidently manage a kitchen team during busy and high-pressure services
• Excellent preparation, cooking and plating skills
• Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and WHS requirements
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and make sound decisions
• Immaculate presentation and professional grooming
• A positive, reliable and team-oriented attitude
