About the role
The Position
An outstanding opportunity now exists for an accomplished and values-driven executive to become the College’s next Chief Executive Officer. Reporting to the Board and working in close partnership with the President and elected leadership, the CEO will be responsible for strengthening organisational effectiveness, enhancing financial sustainability, embedding governance reform and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and value to members across Australia and New Zealand.
RANZCP is entering an important phase of renewal that builds on recent organisational reform. The incoming CEO will bring momentum to implementation while ensuring the College is well positioned for long-term success. This is a unique opportunity to lead a respected and influential member-based organisation through a period of evolution. The role will require a sophisticated appreciation of governance, clear delineation between strategic and operational responsibilities, and the ability to support elected leaders while leading a capable and committed organisation.
The ideal candidate will be a highly capable executive leader, potentially from a CEO or substantial COO background, with demonstrated experience bringing empowering leadership to a complex organisation. You will need sophisticated governance judgement, including the ability to support strategic decision making through delegations across a member-led, committee-based and binational structure. Commercial acumen will be critical, not only in relation to financial stewardship and asset management, but also in identifying mission-aligned opportunities to diversify revenue, strengthen member value and support long-term sustainability. The successful candidate will appreciate the distinct leadership model within a medical college environment, working effectively with the President, Board and elected leadership while ensuring the organisation is operationally effective, efficient and well positioned for the future.
The Organisation
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is the principal organisation responsible for supporting excellence in psychiatric practice, training, education and professional standards across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Representing approximately 9,000 members, the College plays a critical role in shaping psychiatric education, professional development and the future of mental health care throughout both countries.
