Pizza Chef

Location: LEICHHARDT, NSW

Salary: $60,001 - $80,000

Job Type: Permanent position | Full time position

• Prepare pizza dough, including mixing, kneading, proofing, portioning and storage.
• Stretch and shape pizza bases by hand.
• Prepare sauces, cheeses, vegetables, meats and other pizza ingredients.
• Chop and prepare vegetables for pizza toppings and other kitchen preparation.
• Prepare and cook traditional Italian pizzas according to restaurant recipes and standards.
• Operate and maintain the restaurant’s commercial pizza oven safely and efficiently.
• Control oven temperatures and cooking times to ensure consistent results.
• Develop pizza menu items and seasonal specials in consultation with management.
• Estimate food, ingredient and labour requirements for pizza production.
• Monitor the quality of pizzas throughout preparation, cooking and presentation.
• Maintain consistent presentation, portion sizes and recipe standards.
• Demonstrate pizza-making techniques and train kitchen staff in preparation and cooking procedures.
• Coordinate pizza orders during busy service periods.
• Monitor ingredient and stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.
• Minimise food waste and ensure ingredients are stored correctly.
• Clean and maintain pizza preparation areas, equipment and utensils.
• Comply with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work closely with chefs, kitchen staff and management to maintain efficient kitchen operations.

Qualifications and experience

• A relevant qualification, such as Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent qualification.
• At least two years of relevant experience as a Pizza Chef or in a closely related position.
• Demonstrated experience preparing pizza dough and cooking authentic Italian pizza.
• Experience operating a commercial pizza oven.
• Sound knowledge of Italian ingredients, recipes and pizza-making techniques.
• Ability to maintain quality and consistency in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to train and support other kitchen staff.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in food quality and presentation.
