About the role
Our client is an established and growing Sydney law firm with a strong plaintiff personal injury practice and a particular focus on workers compensation matters.
Based in Parramatta, the firm has a dedicated compensation team including experienced senior practitioners and Accredited Personal Injury Specialists. The practice acts for injured workers across the NSW compensation system and has developed a strong reputation for client service, technical expertise and achieving positive outcomes.
The firm offers a structured and supportive environment where lawyers are given meaningful responsibility for their files while continuing to work closely with senior practitioners as their technical and advocacy skills develop.
Due to continued growth, the firm is looking to appoint a Personal Injury Lawyer with approximately 2–4 years' PAE to join its Workers Compensation team.
This is a genuine file-management role where you will take carriage of your own portfolio of NSW workers compensation matters, with support and mentoring from experienced senior lawyers.
Your work will include:
Managing NSW workers compensation claims from initial instructions through to resolution;
Advising clients on statutory benefits, weekly payments, medical and treatment expenses and permanent impairment claims;
Reviewing insurer dispute notices and work capacity decisions;
Developing case strategies and progressing disputed claims;
Preparing and running matters before the Personal Injury Commission;
Preparing applications, submissions, statements and supporting evidence;
Obtaining and analysing medical, employment and liability evidence;
Briefing medico-legal experts and counsel where required;
Preparing permanent impairment claims and associated disputes;
Preparing Independent Review Office funding applications;
Conducting settlement negotiations and participating in conciliations, conferences and mediations; and
Providing clear and practical advice to injured workers throughout the life of their claim.
You will have genuine responsibility for progressing your matters while continuing to receive support on more complex disputes and strategic issues.
You will ideally have:
Approximately 2–4 years' post-admission experience;
Experience practising in plaintiff personal injury law;
Strong exposure to NSW Workers Compensation matters;
A working knowledge of the NSW statutory workers compensation scheme;
Experience dealing with disputes concerning weekly benefits, medical expenses and permanent impairment;
Exposure to proceedings before the Personal Injury Commission;
Strong drafting and file management skills;
Confidence dealing directly with clients, insurers, doctors, experts and counsel;
Good judgement and the ability to progress matters with increasing autonomy; and
A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in plaintiff personal injury law.
Experience appearing in the PIC, conducting negotiations or managing disputed workers compensation claims will be particularly well regarded.
The firm offers:
Genuine carriage of NSW workers compensation matters;
Exposure to the full range of statutory workers compensation disputes;
Direct mentoring from experienced practitioners and Accredited Personal Injury Specialists;
Regular client contact and hands-on litigation experience;
Opportunities to develop advocacy and negotiation skills;
A clear pathway for career progression;
Hybrid working arrangements;
Ongoing professional development and CPD support;
Competitive remuneration and incentive opportunities; and
A supportive and collaborative team environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a plaintiff personal injury lawyer who already has a foundation in NSW workers compensation and wants greater file ownership, stronger technical exposure and a clear pathway to progress their career.
