Purpose and Scope

Ivanhoe Girls' Grammar School is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated Head of Athletic Development to join our Sport Department on a casual basis commencing in Term 4, 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate athletics professional to lead and develop high-quality athletics programs that inspire participation, performance and personal growth in students from Grade 5 to Year 12. The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting students participating in Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) and School Sport Victoria (SSV) competitions while fostering a positive and inclusive sporting culture.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Head of Athletics

• Act as Head Coach for the School Track & Field, Cross Country, Triathlon and Run Group programs within the SSV and GSV competitions, including the design and delivery of training programs.
• Coordinate training locations, coaches and schedules for GSV and SSV Track & Field, Cross Country, Triathlon and Run Group.
• Attract excellent coaches to support students within athletics programs and work with the Director of Sport, Head of Junior School Sport and Human Resources to facilitate their appointment.
• Identify opportunities for athletics teams to compete locally, nationally and internationally to provide extension opportunities for students beyond the GSV program.
• Work with the Director of Sport to design and oversee pre-season training sessions/camps for athletics.
• Foster a positive and supportive team environment in which all athletes are provided the opportunity to succeed.
• Support athletes with goal setting, time management, injury prevention and nutrition strategies.
• Assist the Head of Houses and the Head of Junior School Sport in the coordination of the House Athletics and Cross-Country events.
• Select teams for Track & Field, Cross-Country and Triathlon events.
• Maintenance of digital information relating to GSV and SSV Carnival Sports, including the recording of attendance and results.
• Supervise Wednesday morning senior GSV training sessions in 2027.

Strength and Conditioning

• Facilitate Strength and Conditioning sessions for students of varying sports and ability levels.
• Manage the Strength and Conditioning studio.
• Support staff to use the Strength and Conditioning studio.
• Oversee the implementation of student management and well-being practices.

Key Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated sound understanding of athletics, exercise programming and school sport within an educational context
• Demonstrated the ability to analyse a sport in relation to the strength and conditioning needs of a team and/or individual athlete
• Working with Children Check or registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching
• Strong organisational, time management and ICT skills
• A genuine passion for participation and performance in sport.
• Level 2 First aid qualification
